Ansgar was born and raised near Cologne, Germany and earned his Doctor of Engineering Degree at the Technical University at Aachen, Germany.
He and his wife Beate moved to California in 1994 where Ansgar worked at the University of California at Berkeley.
In 2001 the couple with their five children moved to San Luis Obispo where Ansgar taught at California Polytechnic State University.
In 2010, the family returned to their native Germany. Ansgar serves as treasurer for Arco Iris America.
